Group of chained men executed by burning while a crowd looks on. The artwork (as evidenced by the polearms and costume) seems to date from late 14th to mid-15th C, it could be a depiction of the burning of Cathar heretics by the Papal Inquisition in the Languedoc in late 12th to early 13th C, or could as easily depict the later execution of lapsed conversos by the later Spanish Inquisition.
